Alternate Plucking

Skill Course•8 Activities

Playing the bass requires coordination between your fret and your rhythm hands. A key technique to learn is alternate plucking, which involves using different fingers on your rhythm hand to pluck the strings. And since the bass is a rhythm instrument, you’re going to want to learn how to lock into a beat while you’re playing. Once you develop dexterity in your fingers and a familiarity with where to put them on the instrument, your ability to play faster and more complicated lines will increase. With patience and practice you’ll be a more confident player across all four strings and provide a reliable accompaniment to any beat.
